Microsoft (MSFT) is one of the top AI investing players on the US stock market, especially as the AI revolution continues in 2025. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has been supportive of this plan and says he doesn’t want to miss out on a potential billion-dollar opportunity. In a recent interview, Nadella spoke about Microsoft’s AI Future and also past mistakes, particularly in search engines.
The Microsoft CEO admitted in the interview that Microsoft missed out on capitalizing on the rise of web search, and credited Alphabet Google for swooping in. He stated, “We missed what turned out to be the biggest business model on the web because we all assumed the web is going to be all about being distributed. Who would have thought that search would be the biggest winner in organizing the web.”
Microsoft Wants to be the Google of the AI Industry
Now looking to not make this mistake again, Microsoft has been a big investor in AI technological developments. Most tech companies see AI as a goldmine in the future of technology and are looking to include the newest software in their products. Microsoft is a leader in this, recently making advancements in chip technology that most devices use for AI incorporation. Earlier this month, Microsoft unveiled a “revolutionary” quantum chip. Indeed, the Majorana 1 is a new chip that allows for stable, scalable, and simplified quantum computing, the company stated.
The Majorana 1 quantum chip could propel Microsoft (MSFT) stock to a $500 price in the near future if it debuts strongly. In a podcast with Dwarkesh Patel, Satya Nadella explained that companies can only stay ahead if they correctly identify tech trends and understand where value will be created within those trends. Microsoft clearly sees AI as the next advancement, one that could be as big as Google search.

“That’s one key lesson I’ve learned. It’s not just about getting the tech trend right; it’s about understanding where the value will be created. These business model shifts are often more challenging than even the tech changes themselves,” the Microsoft CEO said. Nadella doesn’t believe that AI will be monopolized by one big company like Nvidia. However, he wants Microsoft to be one of the biggest players in the field, like Google’s search engine is.
